How To Get Rid Of Slugs In Garden Naturally
In the spring time, when the ground is really wet, slugs can devastate a new garden bed. They love to crunch and munch all over those delicious new leaves. Since you likely are growing plants for you to eat and or admire, you likely don’t want slugs feasting on your garden. If you are like me, you want to avoid using harmful substances in your garden beds. So, I have put together my top three go too’s to get rid of slugs in your garden naturally. These easy slug removal home remedies are super easy and consist of products you likely already have in your kitchen.
Not only do you get to use products in your kitchen, you actually get to REUSE products you were likely going to toss into your trash. Have coffee grounds, skunked beer or egg shells? Perfect!
Natural Slug Repellent: Coffee
Slugs do not like coffee. Sprinkle this on the slugs or around your plants that the slugs are visiting. You can also make a concentrated spray with the grounds and water. Just be careful not to dump too many coffee grounds in the soil. It does make a great compost additive but too much can become too acidic.
Natural Slug Repellent Eggshells
Crush up those eggshells to deter slugs. Sprinkle them around your plants. Slugs will avoid crossing over them. Eggshells also add good calcium into the soil as they breakdown.
Natural Slug Bait
Slugs, like me on a hot summer day, can’t resist a tasty beer. Slugs are drawn to the yeast of the beer and will jump right in. To use beer as a natural snail bait, put the beer inside of a cup that you will bury in the soil near your affected plants. Leave a little but of the cup above the soil. You can keep a lid propped open to slow down evaporation and water getting in. When the slugs go in for a drink, they end up taking a swim.
How do you like to get rid of your slugs? What works best for you? I know there are many other great tips for getting rid of slugs but I hope this starts you off on a good foot!
Cheers.
